Goal-oriented and evidence-based individual counseling

My approach is grounded in evidence-based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) that focuses on the impact of thoughts, emotions and behaviors on a person’s mental health and well-being.

I also integrate elements from other approaches which research has shown to work well for people with a wide range of mental health challenges – Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Exposure-based therapy, as well as Parent Management Training approaches for individual clients with parenting concerns.

What to expect

Free 10 minute phone call

Prior to meeting, we will have a free, brief phone conversation (~10 minutes) for introductions, to provide some initial orientation, and to schedule our first session.

First session (60 minutes)

We’ll take some time to talk about the challenges and concerns that have led you to seek counseling.

Together, we’ll determine if I am the right person to support you in achieving your mental health goals. We’ll also begin to outline the goals that will guide our work moving forward.

Weekly sessions (50 minutes)

We’ll use science-backed strategies to help you achieve your goals and make the changes you desire. We’ll also work on learning how to effectively engage with experiences or situations that cannot be changed.

Depending on your goals, we may work on strategies to feel less stuck in ineffective patterns of thoughts and behaviors, on developing a better understanding of your emotions and learning how to manage them in difficult situations, or perhaps on learning tools for building and maintaining the kind of life and relationships you are seeking.

The main aim of psychological counseling is to enhance your quality of life. So you’ll be encouraged to practice the strategies we discuss during our sessions in your daily life between meetings.

I am taking clients for online telehealth appointments and in-person sessions at my practice in Stettlen, Bern.

This is a private pay practice and I am not able to accept health insurance. Depending on your insurance, your treatment may be reimbursed and I can provide documentation for you to provide to your insurer. Ultimately, clients are responsible for payments of all fees for services.
